Bookmark and Share

The European Route of Roma Culture and Heritage, a two-day Council of Europe-sponsored event designed to fight prejudice about the Roma, was launched in Lendava on Wednesday as part of Slovenia's CoE chairmanship. On Thursday, the event featured the laying of the foundation stone for a Roma cultural centre in Kamenci.

The project, organized by the Government Office for National Communities in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the Roma community in Slovenia, serves as a basis for connecting European countries having Roma population.

The European Route of Roma Culture and Heritage will help the public get acquainted with the Roma culture through direct contact and meetings with the Roma communities and artists in their settlements or as part of creative and educational events, the organizers said.

Damjan Bergant, the head of the project group for the chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers, presented numerous activities dedicated to the Roma. The State has paid particular attention to the Roma also as part of its CoE chairmanship, he added.
