Bookmark and Share

Honorary ConsulsWashington, October 2 - Embassy of Slovenia hosted on October 2 its annual Honorary Consuls' meeting, which was attended also by the newly appointed Consuls General Dr. Melita Gabrič and Mr Jure Žmauc, respectively, in New York and Cleveland. Slovenia has so far appointed eight Honorary Consuls, who are actively promoting Slovenia in eight American states. The meeting this year was attended by Mr. Ronald J. Zlatoper (Hawaii), Mrs. Barbara K. Nelson (Kansas), Dr. Gregory S. Chan (Florida), Dr. John P. Vidmar (Illinois) and Mr. Raymond P. Kogovsek (Colorado).

These distinguished individuals work with the career representations of Slovenia in order to promote economic, Slovenia. Despite the honorary nature of work, the Honorary Consulates constitute an important part of the Slovenian Public diplomacy network, particularly since they can locally assure promotion of Slovenia. A list of all Honorary Consuls is available at the Web site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia.

The gathering offered a good opportunity for Ambassador Roman Kirn to meet the group and to bring them up to date on Slovenia's international role and economic situation. He stressed the importance of their role in promoting Slovenia as an interesting business and trade partner and as a fascinating tourist destination.

Ambassador Kirn promised to visit the Honorary Consuls individually and announced his intention to travel to Florida already this month. He is planning to open the exhibition of a group of Slovenian contemporary artists, called the Move Movement, on October 21 at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. The event has been made possible by the help of the Slovenian Honorary Consul Dr. Gregory Chan and his assistant Sandra Zupan.
