GROUP SHOW 2009 FEATURING GASPER JEMEC

"Group Show 2009 at the Salamatina Gallery is a selection of works by international artists in media ranging from paintings to prints, photography installations and calligraffiti...  The show...presents the work of artists whose roots can be traced to Amsterdam, France, Hungary, Slovenia, and America.  A mélange of many talents and perspectives, Group Show 2009 presents some of the freshest and most intriguing expression in the Contemporary art world.

"...Featured is a 10-canvas painting installation, "The Blue Tattoo Long Island," by Slovenian artist, Gasper Jemec.  Jemec conceived this bold abstraction as a site-specific work for the Salamatina Gallery.  Designed to fill two adjoining walls, the painting covers not only the surface of each interlocked canvas but the sides as well, alluding to the stretching of skin over a body and the function of a tattoo. Depicted in this vivid tableau are elements which Jemec encountered through his connections with the people, landscape and beauty of Long Island.  Other works by Jemec include a series The Wings, and two abstract paintings in acrylic gelatin, a technique which the artist conceived and perfected himself..."
