Slovenska Narodna Citalnica, Inc.
Dear Fellow Slovenians,
They say, “Everything old is new again” or “Look through the eyes of a child”. The committee of the
Slovenska Narodna Čitalnica of Cleveland Ohio has been doing exactly that, as we dust off the covers of our
books, and page through our history. We are now beginning a new chapter of our legacy as we plan the new
“edition”, the children's library. Won't you join us? Come to our Annual Meeting.
At the Citalnica founding in 1906 the “Nova domovina” publisher, Rajko Fajgelj, invited the leadership
of Slovenian clubs and organizations to combine forces and start a Slovenian library for their community. It
may surprise some that, yes, we have been in continuous operation since 1906. There have been those, who
through good times and bad, staunchly persevered in keeping the Slovenska Narodna Citalnica, Inc. available to
the Slovenian community of Cleveland. We are the oldest cultural organization in continuous operation outside
Slovenia, and the oldest private specialized library in Cleveland.
If you are not yet a member, please join us. If you are an organization, please remember to appoint
your organization's representative to our Advisory Board. Your continued financial support is greatly
appreciated. All Slovenians and Slovenian organizations and their members are invited to attend this special
meeting designed to answer questions regarding the future of the Slovenska Narodna Citalnica and the
children's library. We invite you to be a part of it. It does not matter how much or how little you think you
know about Slovenian history, nor how well you speak or understand the language. We are all committed to
sharing and preserving our Slovenian American culture and heritage for ourselves and our children.
The informative Annual Meeting of the Slovenska Narodna Čitalnica, Inc. is Sunday, March 1, 2009 at
2:00pm on the second floor of the Slovenian National Home, 6417 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland 44103. All
Slovenians are welcome.
