6th Annual International Folk Festival of Lake County

Cleveland area home to the largest community of Slovenians outside of Europe
The Sixth Annual International Folk Festival of Lake County will be on Saturday, April 25 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Lakeland Community College Performing Arts Center. The event is $4 per adult, $2 per child. Visitors will have the chance to explore and learn about the folk customs, traditions, and rich diversity of Northeastern Ohio.
Lakeland recently added Slovenian language courses to the schedule and will be offering SLOV 1001, Slovenian I, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 7:50 p.m. For information on taking Slovenian classes at Lakeland, call the Modern Languages Department at 440-525-7146.
The Sixth Annual Folk Fest will feature ethnic music and song including:
- Slovenian pastries
- Slovenian sausage sandwiches
- Mi Smo Mi a capella group
- Folklorna Skupina Kres accompanied by Matjaz Frank on the button box
- Dr. Zvone Zigon, Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland
- Displays from St. Mary’s and St. Vitus’ Slovenian schools
- Displays from the Slovenian Museum and Archives, the Slovenian Genealogy Society, the Slovenian Art Guild, and the Cleveland Slovenian-Style Polka Hall of Fame
- Discussions of Slovenian culture, art, and film
- Anthony Culkar on accordion, accompanied by Cecilia Dolgan leading an audience sing along
- Carol Cerek on beekeeping in Slovenia
The International Folk Festival is sponsored by the Center for Slovenian Studies at Cleveland State University, Slovenian-American Heritage Foundation, Slovenian Consulate of Cleveland, Lakeland Community College Diversity Committee, WELW, and the Lakeland Community College Center for International Education.
